The Acai berry is a rather unique little berry. It is grown on the acai palm which is native to only the most tropical of areas in Central and Southern America. The berry is lumped with groups of between 600 and 800 berries, and the crop comes twice a year.

The acai palm is extremely important to the people native to the areas in which it grows. Not only does the acai berry make up up to 42% of their food intake by weight, but it also provides a most lucrative income source for them. As the demand for the acai berry sky rockets, so does the benefits which this wonderful tree can provide to the natives in these regions.

The acai berry itself looks perhaps a little like a very large grape; it measures about an inch (25mm) across and is a very pleasing deep purple color If the berry is still young then it appears green instead.

Inside a solid, hard outer crust lies the flesh of the berry. It is this flesh that is so lauded over by so many in the health and medical industries; this is the holy grail of antioxidant foods, the most super of all super foods.
